Technically IST646 has not yet even begun yet, but we had a little "pre-work" to do. The "get to know you" part of the course. This is my favorite part because everything is brand new and you're still unsure whether this will be an awesome experience, or, in a few weeks, if you'll be regretting all the decisions that got you here. Luckily, based on what I'm seeing so far, choosing to sign up for this class seems like a good decision. Check back in a few weeks when I'm working on my final project AND trying to close up the library, get Field Days squared away and help run the 8th grade formal... I may be singing a very different tune.
So even though the class starts next week, we did have a few tasks set before us. Since this is a storytelling class we couldn't just introduce ourselves the old fashioned way (say it with me "Hi, I'm Kate and I signed up for this class because....) instead we were presented with a bit of a challenge. Create a 30 second video using Animoto showing off our multiple identities. For me this was a struggle because I have WAY too many personalities to fir into 30 seconds. How would I narrow them down? Which ones were the most important to share? So I cheated a little bit. I managed to fit several pictures on each page by employing Paint.net and my very minimal photo editing skills. Animoto wasn't going to hold me or my other identities down.
Week one is now in the books. Soon I'll find out who my story circle partners are and get matched up with my practice partner and then well be off to the races. My video is below. Enjoy!
This page is my home for all my studies. Initially started when I was a graduate student at Syracuse University in Library & Information Science:School Media, it has seen me through that degree plus a CAS in Cultural Heritage Preservation.
Starting in the Fall of 2018 I will use it for my newest endeavor, a certificate in Native American Studies at Montana State University.
On occasion I will also post interesting articles or my thoughts on things related to my job as a Middle School Librarian in an Expeditionary Learning School.
