In Deeper Waters by FT Lukens Release Date: April 20, 2021 Goodreads Page Why I Love this Book: I read a lot of Contemporary YA, but every once in awhile a book come along that's outside my normal genre and totally catches my eye and then my heart- In Deeper Waters did just that. What I really liked about this book is that our two main characters, Prince Tal and Athlen are both at an interesting tipping point and their stories manage to both parallel each other and intertwine. Both Tal and Athlen know who they are and are pretty certain about who they want to be, but neither has any idea how to actually do it. Their both kind of adrift, hiding bits of themselves from the people around them, trying to fit into a narrative that they don't feel 100% comfortable with. They each think it's their lot in life, until they meet each other and suddenly a whole new path forward opens, if they can find a way to take it. Besides the obviously romance aspect, there is also adventure, mystery, palace intrigue and some good old fashioned Fairy Tale elements that bring a bit of that familiar nostalgia to the story. I would love to spend more time with Tal and Athlen, but if this ends up being a stand alone, it's a great one.
